Questions, answered
Everything Outer Banks homeowners ask before starting a finish carpentry project, and a few you might not have thought of yet.
Working together
How a project starts, what it costs to ask, and how long the good stuff takes.
Yes. Every project starts with a free, no-obligation consultation and written estimate. We'll walk the space with you, talk through ideas, take measurements, and follow up with a clear, itemized quote, so there are no surprises before a single board is cut.
Reach out through our contact form, by phone, or by email with a few details about what you have in mind. We'll schedule an on-site visit, discuss your goals and budget, and put together a proposal. Once you approve it, we lock in a start date that works for your schedule.
It depends entirely on scope. A single fireplace mantel or a room of crown molding may take a few days; a whole-home trim package or a wall of custom built-ins can run a couple of weeks. We give you a realistic timeline in your written estimate and keep you updated if anything changes.
Both. No project is too small, whether it's a single set of floating shelves or trimming out one window, we treat it with the same care as a full renovation. Many of our largest projects started as a small first job that earned a homeowner's trust.
For most projects we collect a deposit to reserve your date and order materials, with the balance due on completion. Larger jobs may be broken into progress payments tied to milestones. Everything is spelled out in your written agreement before work begins, so you always know what's owed and when.
The work itself
What we build, the materials we use, and how we protect your home along the way.
Custom trim and molding, crown and baseboards, wainscoting and board-and-batten, kitchen and bath cabinetry, built-in shelving and entertainment centers, staircases and railings, interior doors, mudroom lockers, closet systems, and fireplace mantels. If it's the detail work that makes a house feel finished, we do it.
We work in solid hardwoods, paint-grade poplar and MDF, stain-grade species like oak, maple, and walnut, and premium moldings. We help you choose materials that fit both the look you want and the realities of our coastal climate, and we never cut corners on the parts you can't see.
Always. Salt air and humidity are hard on woodwork, so we account for movement, choose moisture-tolerant materials where it matters, seal and finish properly, and detail our joinery to last. Building on the coast is different from building inland, and thirty years here means we build accordingly.
Yes. We protect floors and finishes, contain dust as much as the trade allows, and clean up the site at the end of every day. We treat your home like our own. Most clients tell us the tidiness is the first thing they notice.
Absolutely. Matching existing profiles, blending new millwork into an older home, and reproducing details that are no longer sold off the shelf is some of our favorite work. Bring us a sample or a photo and we'll find a way to make the new work disappear into the old.
Trust & coverage
Insurance, the standard behind our work, and where on the Outer Banks we build.
Yes. OBX Home Solutions is fully insured. We're happy to provide proof of insurance before your project begins, so you have complete peace of mind that your home and your investment are protected.
We do. Our craftsmanship is backed by a workmanship warranty, and because the founder is on every job site, accountability never gets lost. If something isn't right, we make it right. That reputation is why so much of our work comes from referrals.
Yes. John G. Espinoza is hands-on for every project. You're not handed off to a rotating crew. One craftsman, one standard, from the first measurement to the final coat. It's the core of how we work.
We serve the Outer Banks and surrounding communities within roughly a 35-mile radius of Colington, including Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, and Roanoke Island. Just outside that range? Reach out anyway and we'll let you know what's possible.
